He is the pianist in the Barbican Piano Trio, long regarded as one of the UK's leading ensembles, known for the breadth of its repertoire and exceptional audience rapport.

James is a dedicated teacher and holds positions at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Royal Holloway, University of London and Eton College. He gives Masterclasses, serves on Juries of International Piano Competitions and is in considerable demand as an Adjudicator.

Educator

For over three decades I have been active as a solo pianist, chamber musician, teacher, adjudicator and examiner. I have always felt that these different activities nurture and enhance each other and believe they have given me a very sound knowledge of how music 'works'.

Teaching is becoming an increasingly important part of my work. I feel confident that I am able to perceive the needs of my students in order to help them 'unlock the door' and guide them to releasing their musical gifts to the greatest possible degree.
